DONE!

With 4 days to spare! I am soooooo thankful that I was able to have the time and determination to finish this goal this year. I don't remember how far I got the first time I tried this but I know in 2010 I had already given up by March because I was so far behind. I don't know if I will ever try this again, maybe. I know next time I read all the scriptures I want it to be at a pace where I can really absorb more of what is being said. So it might not be in just one year.

Tomorrow I start Book of Mormon again and figure out what lesson manual is being used for Gospel Doctrine and work on that lesson and begin memorizing everything! Ok well not everything everything, but currently my list is 100 scripture mastery, the proclamation and some other scriptures that I like, which is lots.

25.25

That is how many pages a day I need to read for the rest of the year. Not many babies due and no deadlines for school so I think this should be do-able. I can read 25 pages a day. I read that many in novels easy and while it takes longer to read scriptures it should still be possible. And I am going to read extra on Sundays and there are 3 Sundays left, though one is Christmas. And sadly I already read the Christmas stories in the Bible. Maybe I haven't read the Book of Mormon one yet.... We'll see. Anyway, should totally be able to do this. 631 pages in 25 days! Theoretically I could read that in 3 days. 200 pages a day is technically possible if I could stay focused....

Off to finish Revelations before working on my projects for the day. That'll be half my needed pages for today. Then I can choose from BofM, D&C or Abraham for my other pages!

24.2

That's how many pages a day I am at for starting tomorrow and finishing on Dec 31st.... 33 a day for starting 12/10. So I have done *some* reading since the last post cuz I was at 36 a day. I think I will be reading lots on Sunday this week. My collage will have to wait, possibly til next year. I am no longer reading footnotes beyond JST and am not pretending to comprehend it all at this point, but I am determined to finish. Next year i will read for comprehension.

I realize it may seem pointless to do it if I am not being able to absorb it all. And it could just be pride that is fueling my determination. But reading slower and looking stuff up just sounds like a pansy pants excuse out of my goal. AGAIN. I have made it further than I ever have before by lots and lots, but my years are only going to get busier from here on out...

Next Year

My 2012 scripture goal is going to be more reasonable. Book of Mormon again plus gospel doctrine lessons (even if I am not in that class) and memorizing ALL the seminary scripture mastery. In seminary I memorized at least half of them I know I did all the BofM & NT ones so it shouldn't be too hard to refresh those and learn the others....

Getting behinder....

Or more behind, whatever. In late Oct I figured out that if I started reading again for real Nov 1 I would have to read 14.3 pages a day and if I waited til Dec 10th (when school is done) I will have to read 41.7 pages a day.

Now since I haven't been reading 14.3 pages a day I am at 15.8 a day from now on or 36.2 a day starting Dec 10th. obviously I am reading now. The Dec 10th thing is to keep me calm about meeting my goal. Kinda like there won't be any school and if you don't do anything until then you can still handle it, plus some motivation cuz 36 pgs a day doesn't sound super fun. But it's better than 41.....

Halfway through Job

I keep being behind.... I have some good birth related excuses for not reading everyday but there weren't as many births as days I missed. Have to be better about this...

Kings, Chronicles & how behind am I?

So Kings and Chronicles are like the Gospels, same basic info just a slightly different take. Probably should have known that before but I don't think I did.

So far I have read 725 chapters. There are 1581 chapters total. So not quite half and we are at 193 days out of 365 so like 53% of the year is gone, but only 46% read. 172 days left with 856 chapters left so we are now at 4.97 chapters a day, which is half a chapter more than the last time I checked.

I am going to try to read Ezra, Nehemiah, Ester & Job this week. Which is quite a bit extra, but I am hoping to get ahead this summer because I know I will have less time once school starts. Also if I read through Job I will be caught up to Proverbs & Psalms which will make it easier to see how many pages I have read with it all in a row and I think it would be good to know how many pages to check on that as well.

Behind!

I don't know exactly by how much but I know I am BEHIND! I will have to add up my chapters and see how far behind I am. I just finished classes for this quarter and my goal for the summer is to finish the Old and New testament. On a vague estimate I know it is over 10 pages a day, but I don't remember by how much...

Joshua

Finished Joshua. Much more to it than just making walls fall down by marching around them. Next week Judges and more of 1 Nephi. Hope the Old Testament gets less violent, don't like reading chapter after chapter about destroying cities, even if God did tell them to...

Deuteronomy- Done

I was going to go back to the New Testament but now I think I am going to stick with the Old Testament. I would like to see the people get to the promised land and what happens next. I am also interested in reading more about Joshua. I didn't remember that anyone was kept alive to enter the promised land because even Moses died before they went in, he did see it though. Joshua and Caleb got to go to the promised land because when they went to go check things out the other 10 guys were afraid and scared people off but Joshua and Caleb wanted to be obedient and go possess the land the Lord had prepared for them.

I think I will read 3 or 4 chapters in Joshua and 1 or 2 in 1 Nephi. I should finish or almost finish Joshua next week.

Goals

I finished my goal ending the week of April 10th. For the week after my goal was to finish Numbers - 11 chapters and read in Psalms since I would be at school. I am beginning to wonder what I will do at onsite in the future because I am quickly running our of Psalms. So I have one chapter left in Numbers to read tonight.

For this coming week Mon 18th - Sun 24th I am going to try to read Deuteronomy. It is 36 chapters so it works for a week. I am not sure if I will be able to do that as most of the books of Moses have been kinds dry, well Leviticus and Numbers with all their rules, temple building instructions and sacrifices. But maybe Deuteronomy will pick up some. They are close to the promised land and from what I can tell we are getting more back into story mode rather than instructions. If Deuteronomy is too difficult I will start reading 1 Nephi with it and take 2 weeks for Deuteronomy. Have been reading the back of the Book of Mormon but I think it is time to go to the beginning now. Didn't want to read it first because I have read it so many times then stopped. Now that I am going pretty well I think I can do it now.

I still want to stick with reading like I have been but next year I think I am going to pick a smaller amount and study it more because while I am getting some out of this, i know I am missing stuff especially in the less exciting books.

Where I'm at update

I added up chapters to make sure I am still on track (should be as I haven't missed any days I know of.) I have read 328 chapters and my new daily amount I have to read is 4.4 chapters a day which is down a tiny bit. Which it should be after reading extra this week! I am going to stick with 5 chapters a day til summer. In summer I am hoping to read extra so in the fall I can decrease to 4 or possibly even 3 chapters a day as I am likely to be much busier!

Goal for this week!

After reading Leviticus a bunch of chapters in a row and then Ether I am sooooo grateful for how easy the Book of Mormon is to read compared to the Old Testament. I think it is the easiest book to read. I think I will try to read other books in the morning and then one or two chapters from the Book of Mormon at night when I am more tired and less able to try to figure out/remember which one was the sin vs meat sacrifice...

I am also going to try to stick with the Old Testament til I am done with the books of Moses. That is through Deuteronomy (I am 99% sure about that). Then I will add in some more New Testament stuff.

This week Mon April 4th - Sunday April 10th (week start days are arbitrary)
For Book of Mormon I am going to read 4th Nephi & Mormon (10 chapters) and through ch 25 in Numbers. Finishing Numbers would be nice but I am starting school again so I don't know if I will have time, especially with travelling.

Next week is a school week but I think I would like to finish Numbers - which could be done Sat & Sun after I get back and then read Psalms through 102 which would make the total be 35 chapters for the week. I will post next Sunday if I remember to revise/update.

Leviticus has lots of rules!

Aside from many sacrifices Leviticus has lots of rules. Some of them I really don't understand and others I think I know what they are saying but they don't make much sense to me. Like why a woman is unclean 2x as long when she gives birth to a girl vs a boy. It also helped me to understand some Jewish traditions better but I didn't see anything that explained why their Sabbath is on Saturday. Everything says the 7th day. It seems like people arbitrarily decided when the first day of the week is so the 7th day being Saturday seems arbitrary. I did some looking up on the internet and it says that Jesus rose from the tomb the day after the Sabbath which is why Christians celebrate on Sunday - the first day of the week. I don't know if that is accurate. Well I know that is the day they found the rock moved, but I am not far enough into the NT to know if they started meeting on Sunday after the Lord was resurrected. I don't personally think they exact day is as important as some people make it out to be (like Jews and Christians fighting over who is right) as long as you keep your Sabbath day holy.

And the reason Leviticus has so may rules seems to be because the people were unable to govern themselves and kind of liked to bend the rules if they were vague or flat out make things up - like worshiping the golden calf. I am glad that we now have more principles and guidelines and are for the most part left to govern ourselves. Although in some respects I see much more defined guidelines, like for the strength of youth being more specific on what defines chastity etc. Which is sad because that implies we aren't doing so well...

Goal for the week of March 28th-Apr 3rd

My goal for this week was to finish Leviticus (21), the chapters I had skipped in Doctrine & Covenants (8) and finish Ether ( 9). That is only 3 extra chapters but I remember thinking it was more so I might not have made the goal until after I had read 7 chapters in Ether... At least 2 days this week, if not 3 I was too tired to read much so I read in Psalms, it has shorter chapters. So this morning, the last day to finish I had 8 chapters to read in Leviticus, 8 to read in Ether and 5 in Doctrine & Covenants. I finished Leviticus on the way to church and between conference sessions. The skipped chapters in Doctrine & Covenants during songs in the PM session and on the way home. I have 3 chapters left in Ether, I am reading a chapter and doing a round of FF then reading another chapter. For this break I decided to post. Hopefully I will be finished soon and can set a new goal for next week. one that I will stick to better throughout the week so I don't have to read over 20 chapters on Sunday. Reading scriptures is a good Sunday activity but it would be nice to do it at a more leisurely pace.

Leviticus!

Made it through Exodus. All those chapters with directions on how to build things got a little repetitive and I am very glad we don't sacrifice animals anymore. I am still reading Psalms & now parts of Proverbs to mix things up a bit. Psalms are short, but difficult to understand. I have read 221 chapters so far, which keeps me on track for just less than 5 ch a day, 4.7 now.

Psalms & Proverbs

Psalms are short but they are hard to read. I did a bit of research and am trying to view them as songs but they don't always make sense to me. I'm glad they are short because it is going to be a long 150 chapters as it is...

Also I should have known this about Proverbs, I'm sure I did in the past at some point, but did you know it is just a long list of proverbs? Like chapter after chapter of proverbs, multiple proverbs in each verse.... That one I am going to have to intersperse with other books, you can only read so many proverbs at once. But it will be fun to learn some new ones. Maybe I can try to keep track of ones I know and new ones I like.

Personal responsibility

Back in Moses' day there was lots of personal responsibility required of the people, some of which would be nice to see in our day. I am not a fan of the whole you can beat your servants and as long as they don't die it's ok because you own them but I do like if you beat someone up and they have to take time off to recover then you need to pay for $ lost. I like that people are also expected to be responsible for their animals.

Ex 21- If your animal kills a person then your animal is put to death and you get nothing. If your animal is known to gore people in the past and you don't take measures to prevent it from harming people and it kills someone you and the animal are put to death. I don't want people to get the death penalty for having a vicious dog or bull but I would like to see more personal responsibility on this. Often it seems people blame the city or animal control for not putting the animal down. The owner should be responsible too if they knew the animal was dangerous. And if your animal kills another animal then you sell yours and split the money and the dead animal (skins, meat, seems to be based on food animals). But if your animal kills another animal and you knew it was dangerous and didn't do anything to keep it in then you pay 100% for the dead animal and you get the dead one.

The plan

I think I made it very close to 39 last week. Just got through Exodus 9 this morning. It has been fun reading the story about Joseph & now Moses. They are ones that I know pretty well but there are some details I didn't remember that I am picking up on as I read it again.

The plan is to keep reading where I am, but if I have a time crunch while at school I am going to read in Psalms. I was flipping through and they have quite a few short chapters. To read the first 35 chapters (1 week worth) would only be 22 pages. I know it won't really keep me on track page-wise, but it will be the right # of chapters. Part of why I went with chapters, some are shorter!

So far I have read 145 chapters, just over halfway to where I should be for my original goal BUT I am still on track for reading under 5 chapters a day (4.7) and I am currently striving to read 5 chapters a day so it should all work out fine!

remembered it wrong

Ok so it's 39, not 29. Not sure if I can get all the way to 39 this week, but we will see.

Printed the charts

The Gospels can be a bit redundant so after Luke I switched to Genesis, read a bit there, then read Moses for more on creation & Enoch, then a bit about Noah & back to Genesis for more in depth on Noah. My goal is to get to Joseph by Sunday night. That's Ch 29 of Genesis if I remember my musicals correctly. Which would be 19 more chapters. Gotta get a move on!

Luke 6:35

I like this one
But love ye your enemies, and do good, and lend, hoping for nothing again; and your reward shall be great, and ye shall be the children of the Highest: for he is kind unto the unthankful and to the evil.

Where am I?

Ok so I am behind right now but I am doing ok. I have read Moroni, Matthew, Mark & plan to finish Luke tonight - I have 3 chapters left to read. Once I finish Luke I will have read 28+16+24+10= 78 chapters. It's been 51 days so I definitely need to pick up the pace but I am doing better than last year and at this point it is totally early enough in the year to catch up. I was also thinking that over summer I won't really have any school work so I should be able to read extra then... I am hoping to hook up my printer tonight or tomorrow so I can print off the scripture tracking charts.

Goal for 2011

So once again my goal is to try to read all the standard works this year. Bible, Book of Mormon, New Testament, Old Testament, Pearl of Great Price, & Doctrine & Covenants. It takes reading 7 pages a day. 19 days in and I am not sure how many pages I've read by but it definitely isn't 133 but hey I can still make up for just read 8 pages on like 100 days or something. There are 2468 pages and 1581 chapters total. So for chapters it would be 4.3 chapters a day.

I've had this goal a number of times and haven't managed to do it and this year I am busier than I was any of the other years, but I'm sure if I really want to I can do this.
